AGM- Goodbyes and Hello’s! The AGM in April was well attended and provided a good opportunity to catch up on all the local gossip.Main items discussed were the new ride opening in Cinderhill, having to cancel the Hunter Trial and the age old chestnut of trying to encourage new people to join the committee and bodies to help at events. It is a sad fact that most of the members we see re-join every year have been members since prehistoric times and we are all getting older! We are in real need of new, younger members, willing to take over from us wrinklies! The committee members that joined last year have been a real asset, full of new ideas and enthusiasm, just what we needed. We had to bid a fond farewell to Alison Barham, my partner in crime as co-chair for 5 years. Alison will be greatly missed. Her dedication to all things MDRA was phenomenal and her organizational abilities are second to none. Alison could pluck paperwork from decades ago, she had the ability to make everything run smoothly, whilst I run round in circles pulling the house apart trying to find a bit of paper that Alison would have neatly filed. Alison, we will all miss you and thank you for all your hard work and dedication to the club. We are all hoping to see you around at all the events and can we borrow Ross every now and again, especially when it comes to putting up the fencing for the show, you all know I cant to anything in a straight line! After a lot of bribing and arm twisting I have persuaded Di Miles to step into Alisons shoes. I know Di will rise to the challenge and she has had some really good ideas that we will be taking on board. So, watch the website for updates, and remember your fantastic committee are all working hard to ensure the club remains viable and you will have loads to fill up your horses social calendar! Good Riding, Ribs

As some of you may know, that at our Summer show and Hunter trial we have a charity who kindly man the gates for us, this is a job that no one likes to do, we are very grateful to Trevor and Julie for giving up there time, so we would like to tell you a bit more about them. OVER THE WALL is a very special place for children who are affected by serious or life-limiting illness. It is the only residential camp in the UK structured on Paul Newman's renowned Hole in theWall Gang camp. Over The Wall gives children one glorious week of experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound. It rebuilds their confidence and, most importantly,is a place where they can just be children;not children who are sick. As Paul Newman puts it, "a place where kids can kick back, relax and raise a little hell". For more information: www.otw.org.uk |
