Please make sure you security mark as much of your
property as poss especially rugs as they will soon be on our horses, if
the weather ever gets cooler!
Be aware that there is still a lot of metal theft going on which
includes car/lorry batteries which are being stolen from farms and
yards, cable thefts is huge at the mo, if you see anyone near such as
substations and they seems to be working make a note of vehicle numbers,
even if they are wearing hi vis! There is also a worrying trend of man
hole covers being stolen, its not just the theft in these cases but the
fact it could cause an accident and serious injury.
Remember if someone comes onto your property looking to buy scrap, get
their reg number!

Please see below, to be honest this type of attempt theft could happen
anywhere so please make sure you trailers have good locks on them, looks
like this may have been the reason they didn't get away with it! I'm
currently in the process of seeing how I can mark trailers and get them
added to the National Database, let me know if you would be interested
in getting yours marked. Don't forget I can mark your saddles as well
and I can visit yards to do so again contact me if you are interested.
A great tip was sent to me following my last message re hay theft for
people with smaller amounts of hay stored, simply cut the twine, that
way the hay will not lose shape until it is used but cannot be stolen
easily as it will fall apart.
Stay safe

At approximately 00:30am today Sunday 04/09/2011 two men where
disturbed trying to steal an ifor williams 510 trailer from a field in
Brighton Road, Hurstpier Point, they were caught in the act by the
owner and a friend, they also had headcollars hooked over their
shoulders, once disturbed they ran like bullets from a gun over one of
the ajoining fields where they were being waited for by a third man
driving what seemed like a black/silver warrior vehicle, but this could
have been burgundy/silver, the owner is unsure as it was dark and all
happened very quickly, the get away vehicle was running its engine in
wait for these men, located in a good position for a quick get away or
to reverse and hook trailer up to. The owner convinced if they had
managed to get through the security lock on the trailer ( which they had
a good try, as it has its all bent up etc ) they would have used their
head collars they had with them to load some of the horses up and take
those. The owner is keen that i pass this message out so everyone can be
made aware and keep an extra close eye on their horses/trailers in the
area, the police attended and the crime ref is 67-4/9/11. these men
meant business and definitely knew what they were doing!

SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE

At around 16:45 on 3 August a burgundy and black 4 x 4 vehicle was seen
on a private driveway in Motts Mill, three males were out of the vehicle
looking around when approached they advised they were having a 'sneaky
fag'. Males described as white, medium build, approx 5ft6"/5ft7", short
hair, in their 40's.
Serial 1392, 03/08/11 refers

ATTEMPT TO BREAK INTO TACK ROOM
Sometime overnight between 2 - 3 August an attempt was made to enter a
secure tack room at stables on Sandy Lane, Framfield. An 'H' reg grey 4
X 4 Dihatsu was seen in the area around 19:00 on 2 August.

ATTACK

I have been asked to send out details that a horse was attacked on the
Dover rural area. The horse has suffered a large wound to its upper body
and is not believed to be from a fence and he was wearing a rug which
was not damaged at all. I have been asked not to disclose the location
by the owner.
This appears to be a one off attack and no circumstances regarding how
the wound ocurred are known.
There seem to be a number of rumours doing the rounds at the moments re
horses in Canterbury and Herne Bay. There is only one incident that I am
aware of which involved a falling out between travellers which resulted
in the death of a mare.
I would like to re-iterate there is no 'nutter' doing the rounds, nobody
targetting horses willy nilly!
All I would ask is please check your horses regularly and report any
suspicious vehicles/people or incidents.
Sadly people are misreading situations and blowing things out of
preportion in a similar way to 'Send reinforcements we're going to
advance turning into send three and four pence we're going to a dance!'
Take care
